How to demonstrate exemption from California sales tax

If you are a manufacturer in the state of California (CA), you may be exempt from sales tax for purchases from SmartAdhesives. Review the California State Board of Equalization regulations.

3 steps to removing CA sales tax from your SmartAdhesives purchases

1. Create a SmartAdhesives account, if you haven't already.
2. Send a completed California Resale Certificate form to SmartAdhesives. (see "3 methods" below).
3. SmartAdhesives will notify you that your account is now exempt.

From that point forward, you will not be charged CA sales tax as long as you are signed in to your account (tied to your email address).

Note: We cannot retroactively credit you for sales tax applied to orders before your account was verified.

3 methods to notify SmartAdhesives of your exemption

California Resale Certificate (PDF)

This form, provided as a convenience, is prefilled with SmartAdhesives LLC as the vendor, and "Adhesives & adhesives accessories" as the property being purchased for resale. You do not need to use this form, but you must fulfill the requirements of the regulation with whatever you do submit.

Please include the email address you've used in your SmartAdhesives account, and a phone number where we can reach you.

1. Fax completed form to 1 (440) 202-5526.
2. Email ca-exempt@adhesive.com, attaching a PDF of the completed form.
3. Mail the completed form to

In the middle of an order?

If you're reading this page and you're in the middle of an order, here's how to complete your current order without being charged sales tax.

During checkout, there is an Order notes section at the bottom of the Billing Information page that looks like this.

Please enter the following into Order notes.
   HOLD ORDER FOR RESALE CERTIFICATE

You will still see a sales tax line item during this order, but you will not be charged sales tax as long as you verify your exemption. Per the regulation, SmartAdhesives must have your certificate before we ship your order to avoid charging sales tax, so we will wait to fulfill your order.

Complete the 3 steps detailed above. Your order will not be fulfilled until this is done.
