How To Use Adhesive Cartridges

SmartAdhesives sells its two-component adhesives -- epoxy, methacrylate, urethane -- in cartridges, which ease proper mixing and dispensing.

All cartridges require an applicator and a mixing nozzle.

Our cartridges come in two sizes. Both are 1:1 mix by volume.

Applicators

Our 50ml cartridges are best used with an applicator intended for two-component adhesives. Our recommendation is the 50ml cartridge manual applicator (pictured on the right).

Our 250ml cartridges fit into normal caulking guns. If you don't have one, we offer a high-thrust caulking gun -- it's especially useful with highly viscous adhesives, such as methacrylates.

Limited usage? Our caulking gun conversion kit for 50ml cartridge makes dispensing a 50ml cartridge acceptable in a standard caulking gun.

Mixing Nozzles

Mixing nozzles use internal elements to combine the two components into a single, well-mixed adhesive.

We include one single-use mixing nozzle with each cartridge we sell.

You may use the cartridges multiple times if you close them properly after use.

However, the mixing nozzles are single-use, so additional mixing nozzles are available.

Instructions

  1. Place cartridge into applicator and secure.
  2. Remove end cap by turning counter-clockwise.
  3. Dispense and discard small amount of adhesive to verify free flow in even ratio.
  4. Attach mixing nozzle.
  5. Clean surfaces to be joined (if possible, use acetone or isopropyl alcohol).
  6. Dispense and apply adhesive to clean surfaces, then join surfaces and secure in place until adhesive sets.
  7. Replace end cap after use.

Our 250ml cartridges look like standard caulking tubes, and they fit in standard caulking guns, but there are two components inside.

Instructions

  1. Hold cartridge in upright position and unscrew plastic nut.
  2. Remove plug insert and make sure openings are clear.
  3. Attach mixing nozzle and secure with plastic nut.
  4. Place cartridge into an applicator (works with standard caulking gun and rod-driven pneumatic caulking tools) and secure.
  5. Dispense and discard a small amount of adhesive to make sure both parts are mixing properly in nozzle.
  6. Clean surfaces to be joined (if possible, use acetone or isopropyl alcohol).
  7. Dispense and apply adhesive to clean surfaces, then join surfaces and secure in place until adhesive sets.
  8. Store with nozzle attached. Replace nozzle on next use.
