Instant Adhesive

SmartAdhesives' instant adhesives (cyanoacrylates) are not your run-of-the-mill "super glue." First, our adhesives are stronger than consumer versions. Second, we optimize them for different performance characteristics. Our product line of instant adhesives includes ones designed for gap-filling, impact resistance, and metal-to-metal or metal-to-rubber bonding. Our instant adhesives are perfect for spot bonding non-porous surfaces, such as metal, plastics, and rubber. They are not recommended for applications requiring solvent or water resistance. (Use epoxies or methacrylates instead.)

All our SmartAdhesives instant adhesives dry transparent, and set between 5 and 60 seconds. Use caution with instant adhesives, as they can quickly bond skin to surfaces and are chemically sensitive to cotton and wool, producing high heat. SmartAdhesives' instant adhesives are all made with extremely high concentrations of active esters for consistent strength and performance.

Things to know about instant adhesives

Instant adhesives are incredibly strong and set the quickest among structural adhesives (usually within 60 sec.). When cured, they form rigid bonds with high tensile and shear strength, but poor peel strength. They are not recommended for applications requiring solvent and water resistance.

How They Work

Instant adhesives react with the trace moisture on the surface of the substrate to form a rigid, industrial strength bond. There is enough moisture in the air to cause curing, so keep bottles sealed when not in use.

Tips

Do not wear cotton or wool when using cyanoacrylates. They react with these fibers and produce high heat. Instant adhesives work great for spot bonding, but set too quickly for covering large surface areas. Store in a refrigerator or freezer to prevent hardening in bottle and preserve shelf life.

Did You Know?

CSI investigators use instant adhesive fumes to see fingerprints. The fumes react with the moisture in the ridges of fingerprints to produce a sticky white layer that they dust with pigments for better visibility!
